We Need Mead!

Jake Mead for Hillsboro City Council

Why I'm Running for City Council

Hillsboro is not just where I live; it’s where my heart belongs. As a fourth-generation Hillsborite, my roots run deep within this city, and my passion for its development is unmatched. I’m running for city council because I believe in a Hillsboro that’s growing, vibrant, and thriving—a beacon for all of Oregon to admire. With the population surge we anticipate, our city must adapt, ensuring the legacy of a prosperous Hillsboro for generations to come. I’m not just thinking about the present; my goal is to pave the way for the next four generations, ensuring they inherit a city that bursts with pride.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS

A few words from Jake
on the issues facing
Hillsboro today

1. INFRASTRUCTURE TO MATCH GROWTH: Our city is expanding rapidly. This growth demands an infrastructure that can not only accommodate but also enhance the quality of life for every resident.

2. HOSPITAL INFRASTRUCTURE: The last time our city saw a comprehensive hospital open was in 1918 with Tuality. With now an estimated 215 hospital beds for a population of over 106,000, there’s a glaring need for expansion. The COVID-19 pandemic emphasized the importance of robust healthcare infrastructure. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about leadership and ensuring our community’s well-being.

3. AFFORDABLE AND EQUITABLE HOUSING: As a growing urban city, we need policies in place that ensures our residents have access to affordable housing. From new building projects to community redevelopments, equitable housing solutions must be a focus.

4. CITY-LEVEL SERVICES: To ensure safety and reliability, our public utilities must meet the demands of our growing population. This includes bolstering our police, fire, and EMT forces and ensuring they are adequately equipped to address mental health and housing issues with dignity and effectiveness.

Vision for the Next Five Years

By 2028, I envision a Hillsboro that’s even more cohesive and vibrant.

With the completion of the South Hillsboro Annex, we’ll welcome an additional 15,000 residents. Collaborating with the county, we’ll also have a clear strategy for a robust hospital infrastructure that meets the needs of both our current and future populations.

Why Choose Me?

What sets me apart from other candidates is my intrinsic connection to Hillsboro. As a fourth-generation resident and a dedicated small business owner, I bring a unique perspective that marries tradition with progress.

My approach to governance is rooted in common sense and a forward-thinking attitude. Hillsboro needs informed and thoughtful decisions that prepare us for the future. I am confident in my ability to be that voice on the Hillsboro City Council.
